COMMUNITY INFORMATION... Wilkinson County lies in the Piedmont area of Georgia, a region distinguished by its red clay soil and rolling hills. The Piedmont Plateau and adjacent Coastal Plain are separated by the Fall Line. Wilkinson County developed along the Fall Line. Legislation created the county, the twenty-ninth in Georgia, in 1803. It bears the name of Major-General James Wilkinson, a distinguished soldier of the Revolution and native of Maryland. Wilkinson County's claim to fame is its large reserve of kaolin, a valuable white clay some dub "white gold." The natural resource is used in manufacturing products such as paper, paint, rubber, make-up and medicines. Wilkinson is considered by many to be the Kaolin Capital of the World.
