Wilkinson County, Georgia

Gordon is located in the center of the Kaolin Belt approximately eighteen miles to the east and northeast of Macon and approximately thirteen miles south and southwest of Milledgeville near Baldwin, Jones, and Twiggs Counties. Gordon is the largest city in the county and the main industry is the manufacturing of kaolin, which is used worldwide.

Gordon is named for William W. Gordon, who served as first president of the Central of Georgia Railroad. The city experienced a growth increase after the railroad was constructed. In 1885, Gordon was incorporated with Dr. W.W. Lee as first mayor.
