Historically and legally, the Sheriff and his deputies are responsible for all law enforcement functions within the County. The foundation of the modern Sheriff's Department is to maintain the peace, to protect life and property, and to provide service to the community. The Sheriff's law enforcement duties are extensive. In addition to serving as the County's principal law enforcement officer, the Sheriff has duties as an officer of the court, which include:

bulletService and execution of warrants;
bulletCourtroom security and related duties;
bulletService of summonses, subpoenas and other civil processes.

WILKINSON COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER

The Sheriff is the official jailer of the County and is responsible for the health, safety, and welfare and the constitutional rights of all prisoners. The Sheriff is also legally bound to maintain and protect the physical facilities of the jail itself.
